Serendipity

“I had gone to this inter-IIT sports meet in Kharagpur when my parents sent me a photo of a guy asking if I would be willing to marry him. I said I wasn’t interested. My friends kind of coerced me to at least talk to the guy and I ended up giving my phone number to one of his friends who was there at the meet. All the while Imran wasn’t even aware that his parents were actively looking for a match for him. Still, since this was arranged for us, we decided to give it a try and started talking. Our first conversation was about “Marvel or DC”.

On the phone, Imran quickly sensed that I wasn’t quite sure about marriage. So we thought of meeting first and getting to know each other better. I still had second thoughts, but my supervisor was very sweet about it. She encouraged me to go and meet him and said she would even grant. me a leave. I finally bottled up my courage and we met in IIT Kanpur last Valentines’ Day. Long story short, we got married in September.

Imran’s supervisor has been pushing him to plan his life since the beginning of his PhD. Getting married amidst the Covid-19 lockdown, he was disheartened that we had to have a small ceremony with only fifty attendees.

We didn’t have a honeymoon because most of the places were closed and Imran also had to write his paper. He likes that even though I don’t understand much of his work, I engage in. what he says and…
